Volunteer Opportunities for Youth

Why volunteer at the library?

When you volunteer at the Piscataway Public Library, you will:

  • Learn new skills and gain work experience
  • Earn community service hours
  • Make new friends
  • Make a positive difference in your community

School Year Opportunities

Applicants must be between 11 and 17 years of age and must be Piscataway Residents.

Volunteers work up to one hour per week for 6 weeks in the Children's Department at Kennedy Library putting away a variety of children's items.

Applications for the 2018-2019 school year volunteer program will ONLY be available at the children's desk at Kennedy Library from September 5 through October 30.

Application selections are on a first come first served basis from September to June.

Summer Opportunities

Each year, the Children's Dept. seeks Piscataway residents between the ages of 11-17 to contribute two hours each week to help with our Children's Summer Reading Club. You do not need to fill out an application or sign up ahead of time, but there is a MANDATORY hour-long orientation in order to be considered for summer volunteer services. Information about these training sessions is usually available in May.

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a volunteer opportunity for teens in grades 6-12. This is a school year opportunity that runs from September to June and teens must be able to commit to the full year. Volunteer commitments include one meeting a month, helping the Children's Department with programs, creating and running programs for Teens, and community outreach events. Applications are currently closed.

Teens Teach

Teens Teach is a remote volunteer opportunity for teens in grades 6-12. If you have a special skill and would enjoy creating a video or power point tutorial for other teens, this is the volunteer opportunity for you! Click here for more information and for the application.
